The Padró Family Winery
Winemaking tradition since 1886

Our Origins – how it all began
We have been making wines, vermouths, and fortified wines since 1886, all with a Mediterranean character and a deep-rooted family heritage.
Padró i Família is a century-old, family-run winery stretching back over five generations dedicated to these crafts, keeping alive a winemaking philosophy that has been passed down from parent to child.
It all began in Bràfim (Tarragona, at the time a tiny village of just 400 inhabitants, where Daniel Padró and Rosa Valldosera opened a modest business with a single press and a simple distillery. There, they made and sold wines, mistelas, spirits and aniseed liqueurs, distributing them in large oak casks transported by cart throughout the region.
That humble, artisanal beginning continues to define the way we work today: respect for our craft, our land, and the passage of time.
The consolidation of the winery: second and third generations
With the arrival of the second generation, Daniel and Joan Padró, the winery entered a pivotal period of growth. Following the early loss of their father, Daniel and Joan were the ones to truly grow and develop their family business.
During this period, the alcohol distillery was relocated and expanded, and brand-new facilities, that are still part of the winery today, were built. The very first building was inaugurated in 1916. A second adjoining warehouse was completed in 1932, laying the foundations of the current productive structure of the Padró Winery.
The third generation, represented by Daniel and Francisco Padró, made a decisive strategic choice: to stop the production of spirits and focus exclusively on wines and fortified wines — a decision that would shape the winery’s path for decades to come.

From bulk to bottling: the fourth generation
Until 1960, the production and sale of wines had been carried out exclusively in bulk. It was with the arrival of the fourth generation — Francesc, Daniel and Josep Maria Padró Armengol — that the winery took its first steps towards bottling.
A proportion of the family’s wines were then sold in glass bottles in wooden crates, primarily to staff canteens and the cooperatives of the large corporations of the time. This step brought a significant evolution, preserving the philosophy of quality and product control while adapting to changing consumer habits and distribution channels.
The winery today: fifth generation and modernisation
The fifth generation endeavours to keep the same philosophy alive: bulk sales combined with the bottling of quality wines, vermouths and fortified wines, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
This generation of the family has invested in the resources needed to modernie its winemaking processes, introduce new bottling lines, expand its own vineyard acreage and build a new harvest reception and processing facility.
All of this has been achieved without losing sight of the family character or hands-on control over every stage of the process.

Padró Vermouths
Time, tradition, and character
A winery with history and a living present
Today, Padró i Família is a living winery, deeply rooted in its territory and driven by a clear vision of continuity. We are heirs to a centuries-old history, but also active custodians of a present that looks confidently to the future, without ever renouncing its essence.
