A Gold Medal for our Dorado Amargo Suave at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition
Recognition from the leading US spirits competition for our Padró & Co. amber vermouth
Here at Padró i Família we are currently celebrating the Gold Medal awarded last month to our Dorado Amargo Suave Vermouth by the San Francisco World Spirit Competition (SFWSC), the most prestigious spirits contest in the United States.
The unique style of our amber vermouth won over the SFWSC panel, a group of respected international experts, in a blind tasting. Padró & Co. Dorado Amargo Suave is a vermouth which celebrates bitter flavours, balancing them perfectly with other sweeter elements. The result is a fabulous blend of refreshing and balsamic sensations in the mouth.
The natural golden colour of this vermouth comes from the successful combination of a high-quality white base wine with a select infusion of botanicals. The base wine for Padró & Co. Dorado Amargo Suave is also made right here at our winery using our own grapes. In our special bitter infusion for this vermouth, one of the botanicals that stands out is gentian, a plant with digestive and antibiotic properties thanks to its bitter components. Our Dorado Amargo Suave coupage is also aged in semi-new chestnut barrels that give the vermouth a fresh and alpine flavour.
We are thrilled to be able to add this latest award to the Silver Medal received by our Padró & Co. Rojo Amargo in the SFWSC in 2017. It reaffirms the recognition of the quality of our vermouths in one of the most important and influential competitions worldwide. This year’s competition included a total of 3,800 spirits entries from all over the world. Thanks to the wide range of beverages submitted and the impartiality of the panel, which over several days, tastes without receiving any information about the products, the SFWSC has established itself as one of the benchmark competitions worldwide.
Dorado Amargo Suave makes the Guía Peñin’s Top-10 list
Guía Peñín, the most comprehensive guide to Spanish wines, has also been tasting vermouth for the past five years. The Guía recently published a list of the ten wines made with infusions that have most impressed them during this period. With 94 points, our Padró & Co. Dorado Amargo Suave Vermouth placed equal second on the list.
The guide rates our Dorado Amargo as a nod of approval to all those traditional and locally-made vermouths in which a complexity of aromas, a balance of bitter flavours and a gentle ageing stand out.
