Padró & Co. Reserva Especial Vermouth: The pleasure in complexity

This exquisite red vermouth, our Padró & Co. Reserva Especial, which stands proud in Mediterranean blue, is the result of a very meticulous vermouth-making process. It has a special touch which places it firmly in the Camp de Tarragona, the area surrounding our winery. It is a perfect combination of wine, botanicals and the liqueur wine known as Tarragona Clásico. This is the name given to the port- and sherry-style fortified liqueur wines produced in the Tarragona Denominación de Origen. Our Padró & Co. Reserva Especial vermouth contains a 17% Tarragona Clásico made with red garnacha and aged for around 5 years in large oak vats.

This vermouth rests for 18 months at our Casa Vermouth Padró in barrels previously used to age sherry. These 500-litre oak barrels are called Jerezanas in Spanish and come from wineries located in Cadis province. The memories that have permeated into the wood of these sherry barrels give our Reserva Especial a genuine complexity.

The extended ageing period of this vermouth is immediately apparent in its aromas which remind us of dried figs or toasted hazelnuts. Its flavours offer sensations of liquorice and medicinal herbs encased in sweet notes and a bitter tang.

Our Reserva Especial pairs superbly with cheeses such as Gorgonzola or Puigpedrós, for example, a Catalan cheese made with cow’s milk and cured over time. It is also excellent with smoked fish. Why not experiment a little to discover your own perfect pairing? The possibilities for creating cocktails with our Reserva Especial are also infinite. Have you ever thought what happens when you combine vermouth with a little light lager? Try mixing our delicious BeerMouth to find out.
